The Obligation (Iron Ring) Ceremony

The ceremony is an entirely voluntary act on your part, and your attendance will have no effect on your academic or legal status as an engineer. 

As it is a solemn occasion, semi-formal attire is required. Late comers will not be admitted.  You will have to wait until the next ceremony. Cameras and/or video cameras are not permitted during the ceremony.

When will the next ceremony be held?

Undergraduate students:
The next Obligation (Iron Ring) Ceremony will be held at 4:00 p.m. for MIE and ECE undergraduate students and 7:00 p.m. for BCEE and SOEN undergraduate students on April 1, 2010 at the Holiday Inn Montreal Midtown (420 Sherbrooke St. West).

If you are an Undergraduate student, the deadline to apply is: February 1, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. Please apply on-line on the ECA website: www.ecaconcordia.ca.

Graduate students and senior candidates:
The next Obligation (Iron Ring) Ceremony for graduate students and senior candidates will be held on April 30, 2010.

If you are a graduate student (Masters and Ph.D.) or senior candidate, please contact Sophie Mérineau to apply. The deadline to apply is: January 15 , 2010. NO LATE APPLICATION WILL BE ACCEPTED.


 
 

Replace a lost ring? Change a size?

In Person:

  • Please call before you come to make an appointment.  You can reach Sophie Mérineau at 514-848-2424 ext. 3126 or my e-mail: merineau@encs.concordia.ca. However, please note that long distance phone calls cannot be returned. Please use e-mail for any questions. Office hours are 9:00 - 4:30 and arrangements can be made to accommodate you during your lunch hour. As Sophie is the person in charge of iron rings, she is the only person who can help you.

  • You may be asked to present your certificate along with a picture I.D. when requesting a replacement ring.  Also by keeping your certificate you can get a replacement ring at most Canadian universities with an Engineering Department.
  • The replacement cost is $15.00 (exact change is preferable). Cheques are also accepted, but not interac or credit cards.
  • If your ring size is incorrect, there is no charge to exchange an iron ring if it is done within one (1) month of an obligation ceremony or purchase of a replacement, after that you will be charged $15.00 for a new ring.

By Mail:

  • Indicate your ring size. Also enclose a photocopy of a picture ID.
  • Send a cheque for $15.00 made payable to:  " Corporation of the Seven Wardens - 02 Mtl " to
